Qafa e Llogorasë

Llogara Pass cuts through the Ceraunian Mountains at over 1,000 meters, marking the dramatic point where the terrain suddenly drops toward the Ionian coast near Dhërmi and Palasë. Driving it, especially from the Vlorë side, means hairpin turns through pine forest that abruptly open onto sweeping views of the Albanian Riviera below—one of the most striking road stretches in the Balkans, and a reason some travelers rent a car specifically to experience it rather than just fly to the coast.

The pass sits within Llogara National Park, where Mediterranean pine mixes with beech forest in a fairly small area, a result of the sharp elevation change. There are a few roadside restaurants near the summit serving grilled meat and lakror, often busy with people stopped purely for the panorama rather than the food. Paragliding operators launch from points near the top on clear days, gliding down toward the beaches.

Weather can shift quickly—fog and wind at the summit even when the coast below is bright and calm—so check conditions before relying on the view. The road itself is narrow and heavily trafficked in summer with buses and rental cars, so it rewards patience more than speed.
